I have many years experience using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help people understand and overcome their difficulties. My background was in mental health nursing and for a period of time I was a clinical team leader. In 2008 I trained to deliver CBT for the newly launched Improving Access to Psychological Therapies initiative (IAPT). I continued to work in this role until 2015 when I focused my attention on private practice. Since March 2020 I have delivered therapy sessions online via platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Outcomes have been every bit as good with face-to-face sessions. (However, as of August 2021 I am offering some face-to-face appointments at the Dorchester Yoga and Therapy Centre. Please let me know if this would be preferable for you). In addition to being a fully accredited CBT therapist, I am also a qualified EMDR therapist. Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based treatment for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) but is also effective in addressing trauma memories for people with a range of of psychological difficulties. Contact me via email or phone to arrange an appointment to suit you. This can be a free introductory session of up 30 minutes initially. Then you decide if therapy or the therapist is right for you. If you want to proceed appointments are usually weekly and last for an hour.

After agreeing what you want to focus on in therapy, we can also recognise your target goals. CBT will help you understand how negative thoughts and beliefs are impacting on your mood and anxiety levels. We will then look at strategies and tasks you can carry out between sessions, which will start to make a difference.

CBT will enable you to understand and find positive ways of changing your thinking and behaviour. This will help improve your confidence and self esteem but also equip you for dealing with future challenges. Because CBT is targeted and goal orientated, therapy can be more streamlined. It also works really well when delivered online!
